MORE ABOUT SMITH FAMILY GARDEN LUAU
Set amidst the lush Wailua River State Park, the Smith Family has been showcasing Hawaii’s diverse cultural heritage since 1946. Walter Smith Sr. established the Smith Family Luau and Gardens over 60 years ago, and today the operation is upheld by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and their extended ohana.
Swaying palms and flickering torches set the mood for the luau’s unique performance, held in the open-air Pele Amphitheater. Find a place among the bleachers-style seating and settle in for a revue that highlights not only Polynesian culture but Chinese, Japanese, and Filipino heritage as well. The performance also features a Samoan fire knife dance and a dramatic erupting volcano.
Like most luaus, the Smith Family Luau buffet features a spread of Hawaiian eats like kalua pig, poi, and purple sweet potatoes. However, the addition of secret family recipes, like Cousin Gary’s teriyaki beef, and other unique dishes like sweet and sour Mahi Mahi push the meal over the top.

SMITH’S GARDEN LUAU REVIEWS

The Smith Family Luau had a beautiful setting, but the food was a bit disappointing. The show itself was fun, with lots of liveliness and skilled performers, but I was expecting more from the buffet. I would say this was a good one to bring a family, not a date.
The Smith Family Garden Luau was a highlight of our trip. The gardens were beautiful, and the luau was intimate and welcoming. Please keep it going!
The luau was overall a beautiful experience.
